If you operate a CDL training program in Indiana, whether you are a CDL school, a college, a government agency, or a private carrier training your own drivers, compliance isn't just about training well. It's about being able to prove you trained correctly, using the right standards, and producing the right records fast when you're audited.
In Indiana, that means understanding two layers of rules:
- FMCSA ELDT + Training Provider Registry (TPR), the federal baseline that applies to every entry-level driver training provider in the state, with no size threshold and no in-house exemption, and
- Indiana's state layer, which is deliberately thin. The Indiana BMV approves a truck driver training school to operate on the basis of its TPR listing, so the federal listing does double duty. Separate proprietary school authorization through the Department of Workforce Development can apply to private, tuition-charging schools, but not to public institutions such as community colleges, universities, and high schools, and not to employer-operated in-house programs training their own employees at no charge.
